OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is increasing traffic enforcement starting July 14 as part of a multi-state campaign aimed at curbing speeding and aggressive driving.
The effort, known as Operation Southern Slow Down, runs through July 19 and includes law enforcement agencies across Florida and the Southeast.
While deputies conduct traffic enforcement year-round, this initiative is meant to draw attention to the heightened risks of unsafe driving, particularly during the summer months when crash rates typically rise statewide.
Aggressive driving and speeding are said to be major contributors to serious crashes and fatalities in Florida, and the Sheriff’s Office said public safety remains its top priority.
Drivers are urged to slow down and stay alert behind the wheel.
“Drive safe. Slow down. It saves lives,” the Sheriff’s Office said in its announcement.
