According to the OCSD, the Florida Department of Education reported that the OCSD earned 772 out of 1200 possible points, achieving 64 percent of the total possible points under a new grading scale approved by the State Board of Education.

The newly approved grading scale for the 2023-24 school year establishes different criteria for elementary schools versus middle, high, and combination schools. Elementary schools need 62 percent or more of the total points for an A grade, while middle, high, and combination schools require 64 percent or more, said the OCSD.

“Once again, the Okaloosa County School District has earned an A rating from the Florida Department of Education, a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, staff, and administrators,” said Superintendent of Schools Marcus Chambers.

“I am incredibly proud of their efforts that consistently place our district among the best in the state of Florida. Okaloosa is one of only three districts in Florida to have earned an A every year grades were issued since 2014, which is a remarkable achievement that highlights our commitment to excellence.”

Okaloosa Schools have demonstrated academic achievement in ELA, Math, Science, and History. Over the past three years, the schools’ scores have improved from 64.75 percent in 2022 to 67.25 percent in 2024.

Learning gains increased from 51.75 percent in 2022 to 57.25 percent in 2024.

According to the OCSD, several schools have improved their baseline grades from last year: Bruner Middle School and Meigs Middle School advanced from a C to a B, while Lewis School and Shoal River Middle School improved from a B to an A.

“Although we have consistently maintained an A rating, we strive for continuous improvement as we move forward,” said Mr Chambers.
