November 5 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health reports today the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County is 6,823, 101 new cases since yesterday. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Niceville and Valparaiso is 925.

Statewide, 6,257 new cases were reported.

The DOH reports the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Okaloosa County is 130, no change.

Based on population, Okaloosa should be recording 21 or fewer new cases per day to achieve a positivity rate of below 10 cases per 100,000 in population.

COVID-19 outbreaks reported at Okaloosa high schools and long-term care facilities

The number of cumulative hospitalizations related to coronavirus in Okaloosa is reported to be 350, three since yesterday. The FDOH reports today there are 34 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 872 tests returned yesterday in Okaloosa with 101 positives. The daily positivity rate is 11.58 percent, down from 14.76 percent the previous day.

A positivity rate of 10 percent or higher is considered an indicator of widespread transmission.

Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 13.19 percent for the week ending Oct. 31, up from 9.59 the previous week, according to the FDOH.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 6.5 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.

Here’s the latest breakdown by city in Okaloosa (note that the city is not always reported as part of the initial notification and may be missing while the case is being investigated):

  • Fort Walton Beach, 2,081, 21 since yesterday
  • Destin, 802, eight since yesterday
  • Niceville, 846, 13 since yesterday
  • Crestview, 1,413, 35 since yesterday
  • Shalimar, 292, three since yesterday
  • Mary Esther, 319, one since yesterday
  • Eglin AFB, 95, one since yesterday
  • Laurel Hill, 71, no change
  • Baker, 138, one since yesterday
  • Holt, 47, one since yesterday
  • Valparaiso, 79, one since yesterday
  • Hurlburt Field, 17, one since yesterday
  • Milligan, 2, no change
  • Cinco Bayou, 35, no change
  • Duke Field, 1, no change
  • Missing, 512, 14 since yesterday

Florida does not publish data about deaths for persons under 18. Florida also does not publish testing, case or condition data for people in county/local jails, state prisons, migrant communities, or cumulative totals for testing and cases in long-term care facilities, probable cases and deaths before testing was available, or non-resident data at the zip code or city level.
