Night lane closures across Okaloosa, Walton roads

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced upcoming nighttime lane closures, traffic shifts, and construction activity on several state roads in Okaloosa and Walton counties during the week of March 8 as crews perform maintenance and improvement work.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Drivers will experience a temporary traffic shift on U.S. 98 over Brooks Bridge the week of Sunday, March 8, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Both travel lanes will shift to the eastbound side of U.S. 98 from just west of Perry Avenue in Fort Walton Beach to Santa Rosa Boulevard on Okaloosa Island to allow crews to work on the new bridge deck. The shift is expected to last only one night.

Drivers may also encounter intermittent lane closures Sunday, March 8, through Thursday, March 12, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. at the following locations:

  • Santa Rosa Boulevard from U.S. 98 to Ross Marler Park, where signage and traffic flaggers will guide drivers through the work zone
  • U.S. 98 from Ferry Road to Pier Road

— State Road 85 Resurfacing Project from U.S. 98 to Richbourg Avenue
Drivers will encounter alternating lane closures on State Road 85 from U.S. 98 to Richbourg Avenue Sunday, March 8, through Thursday, March 12, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for manhole and valve adjustments.

— U.S. 98 and State Road 293 Resurfacing Project
Drivers may encounter intermittent lane closures on U.S. 98 from Paraiso Boulevard to Regions Way and on State Road 293 (Danny Wuerffel Way) from U.S. 98 to the Mid-Bay Bridge Sunday, March 8, through Thursday, March 12, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. for sidewalk repairs.

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Santa Rosa County line to west of Josie Road
Motorists should expect shoulder closures throughout the project limits, Monday, March 9, through Friday, March 13, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for utility relocation and median improvements.

Lane and shoulder closures are also expected Sunday, March 8, through Thursday, March 12, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for median improvements.

— Interstate 10 Eastbound Rest Area and Truck Parking Improvement Project
The Interstate 10 eastbound rest area at mile marker 59 will be closed Sunday, March 8, and Monday, March 9, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for paving operations.

WALTON COUNTY

— Western Lake Bridge Replacement
Drivers may encounter temporary County Road 30A traffic stoppages near Western Lake Bridge Sunday, March 8, through Saturday, March 14, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. for construction activities. Delays are expected to last less than 15 minutes, and intermittent flagging will guide vehicles and pedestrians through the work zone.

— U.S. 331 Turn Lane Operation South of Madison Street
Motorists may encounter intermittent northbound outside lane closures Sunday, March 8, through Thursday, March 19, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for turn lane closure operations.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, all construction activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled due to inclement weather. FDOT urges drivers to use caution when traveling through work zones and to watch for workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
