FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A portion of Brooks Street beneath Brooks Bridge will be closed overnight from April 5 through April 8 as part of ongoing bridge construction, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced.
The closure will be in effect nightly from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. while crews perform work on the westbound portion of Brooks Bridge, according to the FDOT.
Drivers will be detoured around the closure using Florida Blanca Place SE, First Street, and Perry Avenue. Signs will be in place to guide motorists through the area.
Access to nearby businesses and properties will remain open during the work, according to the FDOT.
Once the work is complete, Brooks Street will reopen in its current one-way configuration.
The closure is part of the $171 million Brooks Bridge Replacement Project, which will add two new parallel bridges and expand the corridor from four lanes to six.
Project completion is estimated for summer 2027.

All work is weather-dependent and may be delayed due to inclement conditions. The FDOT urges drivers to use caution when traveling through the construction zone, especially at night, and to watch for workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
