NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Niceville Police Department is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in the death of the driver of a motorcycle.

According to an announcement by the Niceville Police Department (NPD), officers responded to the intersection of State Road 20 and Rocky Bayou Drive at about 9 p.m. Monday in reference to the incident.

During its initial investigation, the NPD said it learned a 1998 Honda motorcycle was traveling westbound on State Road 20, approaching the Rocky Bayou Drive intersection. A 2013 Honda car was reportedly traveling eastbound on State Road 20, preparing to turn north on Rocky Bayou Drive, the NPD said.

According to the NPD statement, the driver of the car began turning as the motorcycle was in the intersection.

The motorcycle struck the car on the right front corner, and the driver of the motorcycle left the motorcycle and struck the roadway just beyond the car, the NPD said.

The motorcycle came to rest on State Road 20, and the car continued the turn, reportedly striking a 2017 Dodge vehicle that was stopped at the traffic light on Rocky Bayou Drive, facing south, the NPD said in its statement.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The names of the persons involved are being withheld at this time due to notification of the next of kin, the NPD said.

The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released later, the NPD said.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact the Niceville Police Department at (850) 279-6436.
