Niceville and Valparaiso named among Florida’s safest cities in new report

Safest Cities in Florida, Niceville

Niceville and Valparaiso once again have been named among Florida’s safest communities. Both cities were highly ranked in The Safest Places to Live in Florida 2016, a report conducted by Alarm Systems Review, an online firm that deals with home security.

Valparaiso is ranked number 9 and Niceville is ranked number 16 in the safest cities list, which includes a total of 30 Florida cities. Indian River Shores ranks as Florida’s safest city.

To find the safest places to live in Florida, Alarm Systems Review reportedly compiled and analyzed data from several different sources, including the FBI’s most recent and complete annual Uniform Crime Report. To help ensure the accuracy of the findings, research was limited to communities with a population of no less than 2,500 residents.

Alarm Systems Review considered the number of both violent crimes and property crimes. It combined the total number of both types of crimes and then calculated that number against the reported population to determine the overall rate of crime for the community and its comparable rank among other Florida towns and cities.

According to the report, Valparaiso has a population of 5,275 and averages 1.5 violent crimes per 1,000, and 9.1 property crimes per 1,000.

The report states that Niceville has a population of 14,407 and has 1.0 violent crimes per 1,000, and 12.1 property crimes per 1,000.

Indian Shores, the top-ranked community in the report, has a population of 4,050 and a violent crime rate of 0, and 3.0 property crimes per 1,000.

It is important to note that the report was limited to cities and towns with populations of at least 2,500 with complete data reported to the FBI for the Uniform Crime Report. So, some communities with low crime rates may not appear on the list.
