Munitions test to impact Gulf of Mexico area south of Destin this week

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — The 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group will conduct flight and boat operations in the Gulf of Mexico this week, from November 4-6.

Fighter aircraft will release munitions each day between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., approximately 20 nautical miles south of Destin.

The tests will occur within a designated range safety area, with boat surveillance in the gulf to maintain safety.

The operations are part of the 53rd Wing’s Weapon System Evaluation Program. Notices to mariners will be issued before missions to ensure awareness.
