WALTON COUNTY, Fla. — A Miramar Beach man has been arrested after a civil process server reported being threatened, shoved, and having her cellphone destroyed during a weekend encounter, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).
Deputies responded to 86 Mandevilla Lane on Saturday after receiving a report of a disturbance that had just occurred, the WCSO said. According to the agency, the victim told deputies she arrived at the residence to serve civil paperwork to Scott Terence Wheeler, 60, and his spouse.
According to the sheriff’s office, Mr Wheeler became verbally aggressive as soon as he answered the door. The victim reported that he took the documents from her hand, told her he had a gun, and threatened to shoot her.
The WCSO said the victim began retreating from the property when Mr Wheeler reportedly started shoving her while ordering her to leave.
According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Mr Wheeler then attempted to grab the victim’s cellphone, which she had been using to record the interaction. When he was unable to take it initially, he is said to have grabbed her lanyard containing her identification before obtaining the phone and throwing it to the ground several times, causing damage.
The WCSO said the victim reported Mr Wheeler continued to shove her, prompting her to defend herself in order to leave the property.
Deputies attempted to contact Mr Wheeler at the residence, but he did not respond, according to the agency. While deputies remained on scene, Mr Wheeler called the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center and stated he would not speak with law enforcement without an attorney present.
According to the WCSO, Mr Wheeler was later located and arrested. He was booked into the Walton County Jail on charges of robbery, assault, battery, obstruction, and criminal mischief. He received a $15,000 bond and was released Sunday afternoon.
