FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) investigation into the overdose death of a Fort Walton Beach teenager has led to homicide charges against the man who allegedly supplied the fentanyl.

Quion Cortez Purnell, 21, has been charged with homicide caused by the unlawful distribution of fentanyl. OCSO deputies arrested Mr Purnell on October 15.

According to investigators, the 16-year-old victim is said to have purchased fentanyl from Purnell on August 10, 2023. The teen was later found unresponsive at a Fort Walton Beach residence and was pronounced deceased.

The District One Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the cause of death was “Intoxication with Fentanyl,” said the OCSO.
