LAUREL HILL, Fla. — A fugitive who reportedly fled into a swamp to avoid capture was arrested Saturday after being tracked for several hours by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) and assisting correctional teams.

The OCSO said 47-year-old Anthony Mcleod of Laurel Hill was located off Bill Lundy Road by Deputy Tim Patterson and K9 Beau, along with support from the OCSO Drone Unit and K9 teams from the Okaloosa and Walton Correctional Institutions.

According to investigators, Mr Mcleod was wanted on charges of domestic battery involving at least two victims in separate incidents days earlier.

On September 24, a victim reported that he pulled handfuls of her hair out at a home on Second Avenue in Laurel Hill. Another victim said he struck her and pulled her hair at a residence off State Road 85 near Crestview on September 26.

“That was a great effort by the K9 teams and other law enforcement personnel who worked those very challenging conditions to ensure the suspect’s apprehension,” said Sheriff Eric Aden.

“Mcleod was taken to the County Jail in Crestview. If you add in outstanding warrants, he is currently charged with four counts of domestic violence battery as well as criminal mischief with property damage.”
