NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Okaloosa County School Board approved new administrators at the March 28, 2022, school board meeting. Jerral Horton, assistant principal at Niceville High School, is the new assistant principal of career and technical education for the school district.
Horton, who in January was named the Okaloosa County School District’s 2022 Secondary Assistant Principal of the Year, is in her 35th year as an educator.
Having earned her bachelor’s at Florida State and her master’s at West Alabama, Horton is certified in general science, biology, chemistry, school counseling, educational leadership, and school principal.

Horton was a classroom science teacher for 24 years, a school counselor for 5 years, and is currently in her 6th year as an Assistant Principal at Niceville High School.
She has served in a variety of capacities during her career such as classroom teacher, guidance counselor, coach, club sponsor, grant writer, department head, and most recently, assistant principal.
Horton’s wide swath of experiences in scheduling, transitions, processes, relationship-building, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) make her an ideal candidate for this position, the OCSD said in a press release.
Horton is married to her husband, Steve, and together they have two sons, Shane, and Brooks. All four family members are proud graduates of Okaloosa County Schools.
