January 27 COVID-19, vaccination report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Wednesday reported 100 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 18 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The FDOH reports 99 people received vaccinations in Okaloosa County on Tuesday. The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 13,862, and 749 people have completed the vaccination series.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 16,235.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 277, no change.

Statewide, 8,408 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,676,171. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 25,883.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 612, four since Tuesday. Currently, there are 59 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, there were 342 test results returned in Okaloosa Tuesday with 102 positives. The daily positivity rate is 29.82 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 19.96 percent for the week ending January 23, down from 21.79 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 10.2 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
