FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — A health advisory has been issued for Garniers Beach Park after recent tests revealed elevated bacteria levels, according to the Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County.
The advisory, issued May 27, applies to the park located at 257 Beachview Drive NE in Fort Walton Beach. Testing reportedly showed that water at the site failed to meet recreational quality standards for Enterococcus bacteria, a type that can indicate fecal contamination and raise the risk of illness after water exposure.
Test results are part of Florida’s Healthy Beaches program and are posted at FloridaHealth.gov/HealthyBeaches. The Florida Department of Health advises the public to avoid swimming in the water at this location until further notice.
The Department of Health in Okaloosa County is part of a nationally accredited public health agency that works to protect and improve community health across the state.
