FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County (DOH-Okaloosa) has issued a water quality health advisory for Garniers Beach Park after recent testing found bacteria levels that do not meet state recreational standards.
The advisory applies to Garniers Beach Park, located at 257 Beachview Drive NE in Fort Walton Beach. Tests completed on Monday, August 18, showed elevated levels of Enterococcus bacteria, which are used as indicators of contamination that could pose health risks to swimmers.
According to the DOH-Okaloosa, the presence of Enterococcus bacteria can indicate fecal pollution and the potential presence of harmful microorganisms. The department recommends against swimming or engaging in water-related recreation at the location until further notice.
Water quality results are posted online at FloridaHealth.gov/HealthyBeaches. Residents with questions may call 850-833-9247 or visit Okaloosa.FloridaHealth.gov for more information.
