FLORIDA – A Florida postal carrier has been indicted on a charge of theft of mail after she allegedly removed a gift card from the mail, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida (USAO) has announced.
United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced the return of an indictment charging Sara Brady, 47, of Satsuma, formerly a postal carrier in St. Johns County, with theft of mail by a postal employee. If convicted, Brady faces up to five years in federal prison and payment of restitution to the victims in the case.
Brady was arrested on January 18, 2023, by the United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General, the USAO said.
According to the indictment, Brady is accused of removing a gift card for Publix grocery stores in the amount of $200 from the mail. It reportedly took place between May 24, 2022, and May 28, 2022, the indictment said.
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
This case was investigated by the United States Postal Service – Office of Inspector General. It will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David B. Mesrobian.
