John Charles Anderson, 39, of Spring Hill, pleaded guilty to bank robbery last week, said United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg. Anderson faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

According to court records, on January 14, 2022, Anderson entered the SunTrust Bank located at 12902 North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa armed with a Crossman BB pistol, a dangerous weapon.

Anderson brandished the BB pistol while demanding money from the teller, according to court documents.

The pistol appeared to be a functioning handgun, which reportedly caused fear in the mind of the teller, who complied with Anderson’s demand and gave him $941 in cash from the cash drawer.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Samantha Beckman is prosecuting it.
