NICEVILLE, Fla. — For people who dread speaking before a group or simply want to become more confident communicators, a Niceville club offers a place to practice, learn, and improve alongside others doing the same.

Panhandle Toastmasters brings local adults together each Tuesday for hands-on opportunities to strengthen public speaking and leadership skills.
Guests are welcome, and the club is open to beginners and experienced speakers.
Members develop their skills through prepared speeches, impromptu speaking exercises, evaluations, and taking on different responsibilities during club meetings.

Prepared speeches give members practice organizing their thoughts and delivering them before an audience. Table Topics, an impromptu speaking exercise, challenges participants to respond to unexpected questions without advance preparation.
Members also evaluate one another’s speeches and serve in meeting roles such as Toastmaster of the Day, Grammarian, Timer, and General Evaluator. Those responsibilities are designed to develop leadership, listening skills, and attention to detail.
Some members put those skills to the test in Toastmasters competitions. In May, Caleb Hammonds represented Panhandle Toastmasters at the District 77 Humorous Speech Contest, where he placed third.

According to the club, the contest gave Mr Hammonds an opportunity to strengthen his storytelling, timing, stage presence, and ability to connect with an audience.
Mark Schindler recently won the club’s first Table Topics contest of the new program year. The competition challenged members to organize and deliver short speeches without preparation.
Panhandle Toastmasters is affiliated with Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization that uses hands-on practice to help participants develop communication and leadership skills.
Panhandle Toastmasters meets Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 410 W. John Sims Parkway in Niceville. Guests are welcome to attend.
