NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Thursday reported 140 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 34 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.
The FDOH reports 558 vaccinations were administered in Okaloosa County the previous day. The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 16,724, and 2,915 people have completed the vaccination series, according to FDOH data.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 17,190.
The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 292, four more deaths since the previous day.
Statewide, 7,711 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,752,330. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 27,247.
The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 636, five since the previous day. Currently, there are 55 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, since the previous report there were 538 test results returned in Okaloosa with 140 positives. The daily positivity rate is 26.02 percent.
As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.
According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 19.87 percent for the week ending January 30, down from 19.96 percent the previous week.
Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 8.6 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
