February 28 COVID-19, vaccination report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Sunday reported 60 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are nine new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The FDOH reports 543 vaccinations were administered in Okaloosa County the previous day. The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 26,662. The number of people who have completed the vaccination series in Okaloosa is 16,379, according to FDOH data.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 18,871.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 327, no change since the previous report.

Statewide, 5,539 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,909,221. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 30,852.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 683, no change since the previous day. Currently, there are 27 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, since the previous report, there were 628 test results returned in Okaloosa with 87 positives. The daily positivity rate is 13.85 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 12.22 percent for the week ending Feb. 27, down from 13.28 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 6.2 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
