February 23 COVID-19, vaccination report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Tuesday reported 63 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are 15 new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 21,564, according to yesterday’s report. Vaccination data will be updated once it is released by the FDOH.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 18,467.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 321, no change since the previous report.

Statewide, 5,610 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,878,533. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 30,213.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 680, no change since the previous day. Currently, there are 24 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, since the previous report there were 622 test results returned in Okaloosa with 61 positives. The daily positivity rate is 9.81 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 13.28 percent for the week ending Feb. 20, up from 11.55 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 6.7 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
