February 17 COVID-19, vaccination report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health on Wednesday reported 39 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. There are seven new cases in Niceville and Valparaiso.

The FDOH reports 455 vaccinations were administered in Okaloosa County the previous day. The cumulative number of people vaccinated in Okaloosa is 20,412. The number of people who have completed the vaccination series in Okaloosa is 10,249, according to FDOH data.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa is 18,063.

The FDOH reports the total number of people killed by COVID-19 in Okaloosa is 312, one more death since the previous report.

Statewide, 7,342 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,844,627. The total number of Florida residents who have died from COVID-19 in the state is 29,311.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 668, five more since the previous day. Currently, there are 32 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

Local update on statewide pre-registration for COVID-19 vaccination

According to the FDOH, since the previous report there were 397 test results returned in Okaloosa with 45 positives. The daily positivity rate is 11.34 percent.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 11.55 percent for the week ending Feb. 13, down from 18.54 percent the previous week.

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 7.0 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
