Road work to disrupt U.S. 98 travel between Pensacola and Panama City

U.S. HIGHWAY 98, Fla. — Motorists traveling between Pensacola and Panama City should prepare for overnight lane closures, detours, and potential delays this week as FDOT crews carry out maintenance and construction along U.S. 98 and other key roadways in Bay, Walton, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties.

Here is the latest breakdown of traffic disruptions by county:

BAY COUNTY

— U.S. 98 widening, Mandy Lane to east of Nautilus Street
Alternating lane closures between Gulf Boulevard and Nautilus Street, April 13–17, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— U.S. 98 widening, east of Nautilus Street to east of Richard Jackson Boulevard
Westbound lane closures between Nautilus Street and Alf Coleman Road, April 14–17, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— U.S. 98 construction, west of Tyndall Drive-Airey Avenue to east of Louisiana Avenue
Intermittent lane closures continue through May.

— U.S. 98 (15th Street) resurfacing, east of 23rd Street Flyover to Jenks Avenue
Right-turn lane closure at Beck Avenue and overnight lane closures, April 14–20, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— Gulf Coast Parkway construction, U.S. 98 to Star Avenue
Lane closures on U.S. 98 and Star Avenue, April 13–20, for drainage and sidewalk work.

WALTON COUNTY:

No construction-related traffic impacts are anticipated for this week.

OKALOOSA COUNTY:

— Brooks Bridge replacement project
U.S. 98 lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road, and on Santa Rosa Boulevard from Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park, April 13–17, 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

— U.S. 98 resurfacing, Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast
Intermittent lane closures between Mary Esther and Fort Walton Beach, April 13–17, 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

SANTA ROSA COUNTY:

— U.S. 98 widening, Bayshore Road to Portside Drive
Median and turn lane closures, plus overnight lane closures from Bayshore Road to Tiger Lake Drive, April 13–18, 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY:

— U.S. 98 (Gregory Street) resurfacing, Palafox Street to east of 14th Avenue
Alternating lane closures, April 13–17, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— Business U.S. 98 (Garden Street) construction, Pace Boulevard to I-110 ramp
Reduced to one lane in each direction through early 2026; expect detours and side street closures.

— Additional projects on Scenic Highway, Michigan Avenue, Palafox Street, and I-10 interchanges
Intermittent lane closures may also impact travel.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution in work zones, especially at night, and watch for construction crews and vehicles.
