NORTHWEST FLORIDA — Educators seeking stable employment in Florida’s prison system can now earn a $1,000 hiring bonus at correctional facilities in Northwest Florida, the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has announced.
The bonus applies to several teaching roles at state correctional institutions, including Teacher Aide, Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher, Adult Education Teacher, and Special Education Teacher.
“I am so grateful to have a Governor and leadership in Florida who are so dedicated to the educators within our system,” said Florida Department of Corrections Director of Programs and Re-Entry Amy Frizzell.
“There’s never been a better time to start your teaching career at FDC. Whether certified or not, you can work at one of our institutions across the state and gain unparalleled training and experience.”
Northwest Florida is home to multiple FDC facilities offering these positions, including Blackwater River Correctional Facility in Milton, Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, Century Correctional Institution, and Okaloosa Correctional Institution in Crestview.
Certified teachers hired by FDC start at $51,500 and receive full state employment benefits, including paid training, retirement, and year-round work.
Teachers without certification may be hired on a contingent basis while pursuing their credentials, with access to Florida’s employee tuition waiver program.
FDC highlights advancement opportunities and the chance to make a difference as key benefits of teaching in correctional education programs. The $1,000 hiring bonus is said to add to the appeal for candidates seeking meaningful and stable careers.
