EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — The 96th Medical Group at Eglin Air Force Base has once again claimed the top spot at the 15th annual Medic Rodeo, held recently at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico.
The Medic Rodeo is a rigorous competition designed to provide Air Force medics with challenging training scenarios that enhance their tactical combat casualty care skills. The event aligns with the Air Force-wide Medic-X strategic initiative, which aims to ensure proficiency in 52 essential skills for all Air Force medics, regardless of their direct involvement in patient care.
Col. Melissa Dooley, Air Force Special Operations Command Surgeon General, praised the efforts of the participating teams.
“You can tell what we are doing with our TCCC is paying dividends,” said Dooley. “That inspires confidence when I think about the future fight and great power competition.”
Eglin’s team, along with others, faced a series of intense scenarios, ranging from car accidents to choking incidents. The medics practiced their skills on simulated burn patients, traumatic brain injuries, and amputations. The deployed scenarios were divided into care under fire, tactical field care, and prolonged field care.
The competition culminated in a mass casualty exercise, where teams had to work together to assess, treat, and save nearly 50 casualties in a darkened hangar. Despite the challenges, the 96th Medical Group emerged victorious, continuing its legacy of excellence. Eglin’s medics previously won the competition in 2016 and 2017.
The winning team members are:
2nd Lt. Deven Meyers
Senior Airman Abram Craven
Staff Sgt. Brendan Comer
Airman 1st Class Jonah Kincaid
Airman 1st Class Desmon Redmond
