EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — The 96th Test Wing’s Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) team has been honored with the Secretary of Defense Community Drug Awareness Award for the second consecutive year, according to Eglin Air Force Base.
The award recognizes the DDR program’s work supporting local communities, partners, and service members through education and drug-prevention initiatives.
Michael McClellan, Eglin’s DDR program manager, said the team has been focused on countering misinformation and using multimedia outreach to highlight the program’s mission.
“Eglin’s DDR team consistently committed its effort to enhancing military readiness by placing a focus on debunking public misinformation and leveraging multimedia platforms to bring awareness to the program,” said Mr McClellan.
The program works to protect health and readiness by promoting awareness about the dangers of illicit drugs and the misuse of banned substances. Its efforts include proactive education and community engagement.
“Leveraging local partnerships were key in our ability to target a 25% reduction in drug and banned substance related incidents,” McClellan said.
The DDR team said it plans to continue strengthening local partnerships and expanding campaigns across social platforms to respond to emerging substance-abuse trends.
“The goal of Eglin DDR surpasses winning awards. Our goal is to remain the premier resource for our service and community partners,” Mr McClellan said.
