NORTHWEST FLORIDA — Motorists traveling along U.S. 98 across Northwest Florida may encounter construction activity and traffic pattern changes this week, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

ESCAMBIA COUNTY

— Garden Street Construction from Pace Boulevard to the Interstate 110 Ramp
Drivers may encounter construction-related traffic disruptions along Garden Street the week of Sunday, March 15.

  • Garden Street between Pace Boulevard and North Donelson Street is reduced to two travel lanes, one in each direction, as crews perform construction activities on the north side of the roadway. This temporary traffic configuration is expected to remain in place through late 2026.
  • On-street parking is also closed along Garden Street between B Street and L Street.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Santa Rosa County Line to west of Josie Road
Motorists will encounter shoulder closures throughout the project limits Monday, March 16, through Thursday, March 19, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as crews perform resurfacing work.

BAY COUNTY

— U.S. 98 Widening Project in Panama City Beach
No U.S. 98 construction-related traffic impacts or lane closures are planned Sunday, March 15, through Saturday, March 21, between Mandy Lane and Richard Jackson Boulevard.

  • Crews may be working off the roadway, however, and drivers should remain alert for construction workers, vehicles, and equipment entering or exiting the travel lanes.
  • The $110 million project to widen approximately 4.8 miles of U.S. 98 between Mandy Lane and Richard Jackson Boulevard in Panama City Beach is scheduled for completion in late 2027.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, all planned activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled if conditions require. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through work zones, and to watch for workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
