VALPARAISO, Fla. — A health advisory has been issued for Boggy Bayou following a wastewater release, according to the Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County.
The advisory warns that contact with the water could pose health risks due to potential contamination with untreated human sewage. Such exposure may lead to gastrointestinal and other illnesses, especially for children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
Drinking water is not affected by the incident, the department said.
The City of Valparaiso is conducting water quality testing in the area. The health advisory will remain in place until satisfactory results are confirmed. An update will be announced in a future release once the advisory is lifted.
Residents and visitors with questions about health risks related to wastewater exposure are encouraged to contact the Department of Health in Okaloosa County at 850-689-7859 or visit Okaloosa.FloridaHealth.gov.
