December 9 COVID-19 report for Okaloosa, Niceville

NICEVILLE, Fla — The Florida Department of Health today reported 132 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in Okaloosa County. In Niceville and Valparaiso, there are 34 new cases.

The cumulative number of cases in Okaloosa is 10,204.

The FDOH reports the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in Okaloosa is 174, no change.

Statewide, 9,592 new cases were reported by the FDOH. The current cumulative total is 1,083,362 cases.

The cumulative number of hospitalizations in Okaloosa is 453, two more since yesterday. Currently, there are 60 COVID-19 patients in Okaloosa County hospitals.

According to the FDOH, since the previous report, there were 703 test results returned in Okaloosa with 138 positives. The daily positivity rate is 19.63 percent, down from 21.39 percent the previous day.

As a rule of thumb, the threshold for the percent positive being “too high” is five percent according to the Centers for Disease Control.

According to the FDOH, Okaloosa’s weekly positivity rate is 22.68 percent for the week ending Dec. 5, up from 15.3 percent the previous week,

Florida’s current weekly positivity rate is 8.6 percent (7-day moving average) according to Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center data.
