The OCSO announced Corporal Todd Sears and Deputy David Daniels received the agency’s Life Saving Award following their response to an incident on September 28, 2025, involving a woman reportedly experiencing emotional distress.

Deputies responded to a welfare check call and, using real-time information, located the woman at a convenience store in Crestview, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies said they quickly recognized the situation had become life-threatening.

Through calm communication and decisive action, the deputies reportedly intervened safely and took the woman into protective care, the OCSO said. The actions are said to have helped ensure the safety of the woman and others nearby.
