OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. – On January 12, 1984, the body of 34-year-old Robert Cawthon was found in a wooded area nearly two miles west of Highway 4 off Keyser Mill Road near Baker.

Cawthon was partially clothed, had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, and his body had been set on fire.

Cawthon’s car was found behind the old cemetery on Old Bethel Road.

Over the years, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office investigators have continued to try to generate new leads in the hope the cold case will ultimately be resolved.
