NICEVILLE, Fla. — The City of Niceville has issued a public warning after a resident reportedly received a fraudulent email impersonating a city department and requesting payment for a permit-related fee.
According to the City of Niceville, the email appeared to come from the Planning and Development Department and included the name of an actual department contact, but originated from an unofficial email domain.
The city emphasized that all official City of Niceville email correspondence is sent from the domain @nicevillefl.gov. Emails sent from any other domain are not official and may be fraudulent.

The City of Niceville urged residents and property owners not to provide personal information or send payments in response to suspicious emails without first verifying the request.
When in doubt, residents are encouraged to confirm email correspondence and fee requirements directly with the city.
The City of Niceville said the Building Department can be reached at 850-279-6436, extension 1215, to verify legitimate communications.
Officials said residents should remain cautious of unsolicited payment requests and report suspicious messages to avoid potential financial loss.
