FLORIDA — A Brevard County man has been indicted for allegedly possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, announced the US Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced the return of an indictment charging Jackie Jamal Hines, 46, of Melbourne, with possession with the intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. If convicted, Hines faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison.
The indictment also notifies Hines that the United States intends to forfeit any assets that are alleged to be traceable to the proceeds of the offense.
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed one or more violations of federal criminal law, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Melbourne Police Department. Megan Testerman, an assistant United States attorney, will prosecute it.
