DORCAS, Fla. – A partially decomposed body of a man found tangled in a tree on the Shoal River near Dorcas this week shows the victim suffered a single gunshot wound, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) has announced.

A positive identification has been made, the OCSO said. They have not made the name public.

Investigators are treating the death as suspicious, based on the results of the autopsy which took place yesterday.

Additional information will be released at the appropriate time, the OCSO said.

Fishermen out on the Shoal River east of Crestview off Highway 393 discovered the partially decomposed human body in the water, tangled in a tree south of the bridge Monday afternoon.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call around 3 p.m. and deputies had to travel to the scene by boat to investigate.

At the time, investigators said there were no apparent indicators of the cause of death, so it was unknown whether foul play was a factor.
