Barrier installation on SR 85 and other driving disruptions in Okaloosa

Work on the $72.7 million I-10/P.J. Adams Parkway interchange (future exit 53) construction project continues this week with an estimated completion timeframe of mid-2026. The speed limit through the project limits is 60 mph. (Contributed)

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Drivers in Okaloosa County may encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads this week as crews perform construction and maintenance activities, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Drivers may encounter the following traffic disruptions Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility work and construction activities:

  • U.S. 98 east and westbound alternating and intermittent lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road.
  • Santa Rosa Boulevard east and westbound alternating lane closures from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park

Crews expect to finish pile driving for the work trestle in the coming weeks and will begin driving the permanent production piles for the new westbound bridge structure. The $171-million Brooks Bridge Replacement Project includes constructing two new, parallel bridges that will increase capacity to six travel lanes from the current four-lane bridge that opened in 1966. — Mid-Bay Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Drivers may encounter intermittent north and southbound lane closures on the Mid-Bay Bridge, Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. for construction activities.

— Mary Esther Boulevard Resurfacing
Drivers may encounter intermittent north and southbound lane closures on Mary Esther Boulevard for paving operations, median construction, and to lower manholes at the following locations and times:

  • Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, from U.S. 98 to Hollywood Boulevard, between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, from Hollywood Boulevard to Beal Parkway, between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

— State Road 85 Improvements North of State Road 123
Drivers may encounter intermittent State Road 85 northbound inside lane closures from north of State Road 123 to Shoal River Bridge, Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. for crews to install high tension cable barriers within the median.

— State Road 85 Resurfacing North of Commerce Drive
Drivers may encounter intermittent State Road 85 southbound single-lane closures from Butler Road to Friendship Lane, Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for shoulder grading and sod work. Additionally, drivers may encounter intermittent State Road 85 north and southbound single-lane closures for milling and paving operations between:

  • Airport Road and Butler Road, Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Commerce Drive and Butler Road, Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Butler Road and Bill Lundy Road, Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— State Road 285 Resurfacing North of John Sims Parkway
Drivers may experience intermittent State Road 285 north and southbound lane closures between John Sims Parkway and State Road 293, Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for crews to place thermoplastic striping.

US 98 Resurfacing in Mary Esther and Fort Walton Beach
Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 east and westbound lane closures between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach, Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for milling and paving operations.

— Interstate 10 (1-10)/P.J. Adams Parkway Interchange
1-10 east and westbound drivers will encounter intermittent lane closures between mile markers 51 and 53 from Sunday, March 3, through Wednesday, March 6, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Construction crews will pave and stripe travel lanes and install barrier walls.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
