OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — A stolen pickup truck was recovered and its driver arrested Sunday about 45 miles from the scene, thanks to the quick response of the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), the agency announced.
The truck was reported stolen from a home on Highway 393 near Crestview around 9 a.m., after the homeowner saw someone running through his yard on surveillance video. According to the OCSO, the intruder got into the man’s black Ford F-150 and drove through a closed gate, causing an estimated $500 in damage.
The stolen vehicle was soon picked up by a Flock license plate reader camera in south Okaloosa County. A deputy spotted it traveling along Miracle Strip Parkway in Mary Esther and conducted a traffic stop near a business on Highway 98.
The driver, identified as 32-year-old Terran Chase Shoffner of Baker, is now charged with grand theft of a vehicle, criminal mischief with property damage, and being a habitual traffic offender.
The OCSO credited the combination of real-time surveillance tools and alert patrol work in bringing the case to a quick close.
