Avoid delays: Okaloosa FDOT traffic advisory for the week of January 1

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Drivers in Okaloosa County may encounter traffic disruptions on the following state roads this week as crews perform construction and maintenance activities, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Here is this week’s traffic advisory for Okaloosa County:

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Drivers may experience traffic disruptions Wednesday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, Jan. 4, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility work and construction activities in the following locations:

  • U.S. 98 east and westbound alternating and intermittent lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road
  • Santa Rosa Boulevard east and westbound alternating lane closures from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park

— U.S. 98 Bridge Rehabilitation over East Pass Bridge
Drivers may encounter intermittent single-lane closures on east and westbound U.S. 98 over East Pass (Marler) Bridge, Wednesday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, Jan. 4, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. to complete work list items. The existing 35 mph speed limit will be maintained during construction.

— Mary Esther Boulevard (State Road 393) Resurfacing from U.S. 98 to Beal Parkway (State Road 189)
Drivers may encounter intermittent inside lane closures on Mary Esther Boulevard for median construction:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 3, through Thursday, Jan. 4, from U.S. 98 to Hollywood Boulevard, between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Jan. 3, through Saturday, Jan. 6, from Hollywood Boulevard to Beal Parkway, between 8:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

— State Road 85 Resurfacing from north of Commerce Drive to Bill Lundy Road
This week, drivers may experience intermittent north and southbound S.R. 85 single-lane closures for milling and paving operations. Lane closures may occur:

  • Between Airport Road and Butler Road, Wednesday, Jan. 3, through Friday, Jan. 5, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Between Commerce Drive and Butler Road, Wednesday, Jan. 3, through Saturday, Jan. 6, from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
  • Between Butler Road and Bill Lundy Road, Wednesday, Jan. 3, through Saturday, Jan. 6, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— State Road 285 Resurfacing from State Road. 20 to State Road 293
Drivers may experience intermittent north and southbound State Road 285 lane closures from Wednesday, Jan. 3, through Thursday, Jan. 4, for milling and paving operations. Lane closures may occur:

  • Between John Sims Parkway (State Road 20) and Palm Boulevard, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Between Palm Boulevard and State Road 293 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast
Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 east and westbound inside lane closures from Anderson Drive to Third Avenue, Wednesday, Jan. 3 through Thursday, Jan. 4, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., for paving operations.

All activities are weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. Drivers are reminded to use caution, especially at night, when traveling through a work zone and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
