NICEVILLE, Fla. — A new era is beginning at the Niceville Fire Department as longtime Fire Chief Tommy Mayville retires after more than four decades of service.
The City of Niceville has announced that Alex Kukulus will take over as Fire Chief. Mr Kukulus, who brings nearly three decades of experience in the fire service, is scheduled to officially begin his new role on Friday, July 18.
Kukulus previously served with Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue in Reno, Nevada, rising through every rank before retiring as Deputy Fire Chief in 2022. He also holds 25 years of experience as a paramedic.
For the past three years, Mr Kukulus has lived in Navarre with his wife, Breanne, and their teenage twins, Mason and Madison.
“I am excited to begin this new endeavor and become a part of the close-knit community of Niceville,” Mr Kukulus said.
To mark the transition in leadership, the City of Niceville will host a public Change of Command Ceremony on Friday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at the Niceville Municipal Complex, 208 Partin Drive North.
The event will formally recognize Chief Mayville’s 43 years of service and welcome Mr Kukulus to the department. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the incoming chief, enjoy refreshments, and celebrate the department’s future.
