“We were absolutely thrilled to see Amat’s selection for this prestigious Air Force award.  For those that know Kadir, it aligns perfectly with the character and work ethic we’ve seen throughout his time in the 96th CS,” said Lt. Col. Scott Weed, 96th CS commander.

Amat, a recent technical sergeant promotee and eight-year 96th CS member, is the squadron’s cyber systems project manager.

“I feel honored that I have been selected for this award,” said Amat. “Selfless service is something that makes me feel good in my heart and this award reflects exactly that.”

Among his volunteer accomplishments, Amat mentored 30 Henderson State University students as a science, technology, engineering and mathematics advisor.  His efforts contributed to him making the Chancellor’s List.

He organized a local Martin Luther King remembrance parade and worked with approximately 700 participants.  He also devoted 84 volunteer hours to his church.  There, he organized 26 events and served approximately 1,300 meals in the church kitchen.

The 11-year veteran from New York City said his passion for service began at age 14 at a local hospital, where he cared for the city’s elderly patients.

“I volunteer on my off-duty time because I feel obligated to do so,” he said.  “I take great satisfaction in knowing I impacted someone’s life in a positive or productive way.”

Amat recalled one gratifying experience while mentoring local youths at an Air Force Association Cyber Patriot STEM summer camp program in 2019.

One of Amat’s mentored students received a Congressional Naval Academy recommendation and a recognition certificate for the NCO.

“My squadron commander attended the ceremony and saw firsthand what I set out to do that summer,” said Amat.  “It was a momentous occasion for me.”

Amat plans to continue to serve and make a difference in his community well into the future.

“Winning this award inspires me to continue to make a positive impact on all of those that I encounter throughout my life,” said the Airman.
