The Niceville Police Department is hosting a community meet and greet on August 7, 2018, to celebrate National Night Out, an annual community-building event promoting police-community partnerships. The event in Niceville will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall and the Children’s Park.
“We’re expecting a big turnout and we’re looking forward to having some good food and good times,” said Officer Mark Higdon, organizer of the Niceville event. Higdon said last year’s inaugural event drew several hundred people.
The event is open to all ages. Meet and get to know Niceville’s police officers. Bring the kids for goodies, face painting and fingerprinting, and to meet Niceville police dog, “Blue.” Enjoy refreshments from Chick-Fil-A, Marco’s Pizza. McAllister’s Deli, One 20 Bistro, and other Niceville area restaurants.

Higdon said the public safety event is a good way to improve the relationship between police and the people they serve.
“We want kids and families to be comfortable calling and talking to police,” he said.
According to the National Night Out website, millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August (Texas celebrates on the first Tuesday in October).
Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
The Niceville Police Department’s inaugural Charity Golf Tournament on July 27 was a great success, grossing over $10,000. More than 60 golfers participated in the event. There was a tremendous outpouring of support from volunteers and local businesses.
A check for the proceeds will be presented to Plew and Edge Elementary School teachers at National Night Out.
Niceville City Hall is at 208 N. Partin Drive. Additional parking is available at the adjacent softball complex.
