White Point Road closure begins Saturday

The closure is aimed at maintaining traffic safety and to help relieve traffic congestion brought about by tourists following electronic traffic instructions taking a detour through residential neighborhoods on their way to tourist destinations on the Gulf.

Okaloosa County Roads Department has announced the closure of White Point Road and Lakeshore Drive to through traffic headed south to State Road 293 and the Mid-Bay Bridge beginning Saturday, May 19,  from noon until 6 p.m.

The closure will repeat itself every Saturday until Labor Day.

The closure is aimed at maintaining traffic safety and to help relieve traffic congestion brought about by tourists following electronic traffic instructions taking a detour through residential neighborhoods on their way to tourist destinations on the Gulf.

In addition to message boards along State Road and State Road 293, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputies will patrol the area and enforce the blockade on the State Road 293 southbound entry/exit ramps,

Additionally, the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners reminds visitors or people without a registered SunPass to bring cash with them to pay the toll.

Traffic patterns heading north away from the bridge will proceed as normal on all roads.
