Six NHS seniors named semifinalists in 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

Six Niceville High School students are among 16,000 semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. The semifinalists from NHS are  Matthew Deyong, Julia Freeman, Mason Hutchinson, Josh Mills, Ryan Murphey and Sam Stahl.

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

High school juniors must score in the top 50,000 on the PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in order to compete for scholarships.

Only about 50 percent of the finalists will earn the distinction of being named a National Merit Scholar.

 

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance.  It was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 440 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
