knights of columbus free throw competition niceville

All area boys and girls, ages 9 to 14 years, are invited to take part in the 2016 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The Niceville-Valparaiso area competition will be held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 1 p.m., at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church Parish Life Center. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

The local level competition is sponsored by Knights of Columbus councils 7667 and 13527.

Youngsters will compete in respective age divisions. Participants must provide proof of age and have a written parental consent. There is no charge to participate.

Since 1972, councils have sponsored the Knights of Columbus International Free Throw Championship for boys and girls between the ages of 9 and 14 (starting in the fraternal year 2013-2014)

The championship is set up to have the contestants compete within their own gender and age group. All competition starts at the local level. Winners move on to the district, regional, and state or provincial levels. From there, some make it to the international level for championship competition in their group.

Last year more than 120,000 children participated in over 3,600 local competitions.

The Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church is located at 1200 Valparaiso Boulevard in Niceville.
