OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — Okaloosa County will begin collecting debris left by Hurricane Isaias in unincorporated areas on Wednesday, Oct. 14, while the City of Niceville expects debris collection to also begin this week.
Okaloosa County officials said storm-related debris removal for residents of unincorporated areas will begin Wednesday, Oct. 14, with two separate pickup periods planned.
Residents should place storm debris at the curb without bagging it. Debris must remain visible to collection crews, and materials placed in plastic bags will not be collected, according to the county.
The county said eligible debris includes vegetative material, such as tree limbs, branches, and leaves, as well as other storm-related debris, including water-damaged drywall and furniture. Electronics are not accepted.
Residents should keep debris away from fire hydrants, mailboxes, power boxes, water meters, parked vehicles, and other obstructions. Storm debris should not be mixed with regular household garbage.
The county will announce the date of its second debris collection period after the first pickup.
A storm debris information call center opens Monday, Oct. 12, and will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents with questions about storm debris collection can call 1-833-495-3664. Questions about routine garbage service should be directed to 850-301-2822.
Residents in incorporated municipalities should contact their city or town for debris removal information, according to the county.
In Niceville, city officials are asking residents to place storm debris near the roadside in preparation for collection by a hired contractor, which is expected to begin this week.
Residents should separate yard debris from construction debris and place the materials in two separate piles near the curb.
Niceville officials said they will provide an update announcing the scheduled pickup day once arrangements are finalized.
Residents are encouraged to follow their local government’s debris collection instructions to help ensure storm-related materials can be removed safely and efficiently.
