NICEVILLE, Fla. — A crossing guard who helps students safely cross near Ruckel Middle School and St. Jude’s Catholic School is receiving widespread praise from parents and recognition from the Niceville Police Department (NPD).
The NPD recently featured Heike Noonkester in its Employee Spotlight series, highlighting her work helping students and families during busy school traffic hours.
Residents who responded to the announcement on the department’s Facebook page described Ms Noonkester as “observant, diligent, and friendly,” and thanked her “for keeping our students safe and our community moving forward.”
One parent’s Facebook comment drew significant attention and appreciation from other community members.
“That woman is a saint,” the resident wrote. “The only reason I let my child cross there is because of that specific crossing guard.”
The parent also praised Ms Noonkester for being “diligent, attentive, observant, respectful, kind, and forward thinking.”
Others in the community added their own comments of support, calling her “great” and “pretty awesome.”
Ms Noonkester later responded to the outpouring of support on Facebook, thanking the community for its kind words.
“You guys 🥹 Thank you so so much!” she wrote. “This means a lot! Little did I know this was going to become my calling when I applied! And no worries, I’ll be back after summer break 😉”
