CRESTVIEW, Fla. — A suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting in north Okaloosa County after a motorist reportedly found a man dead in the roadway early Wednesday morning, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) said a motorist called 9-1-1 shortly before 6 a.m. on March 4 to report a man lying in the roadway on Taylor Road off Lake Silver Road, north of Crestview.
Responding deputies reportedly located a 20-year-old victim from Mary Esther who was deceased in the roadway.
Investigators said shell casings were reportedly found near the victim’s body, and the scene was processed for evidence.
Earlier in the morning, the roadway was closed between Lake Silver Road and Oak Hill Road for police activity while investigators worked the scene.
The OCSO said Wednesday evening that a suspect is now in custody in another jurisdiction. Additional information is expected to be released later.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the homicide.
