NICEVILLE, Fla. — The Niceville Police Department (NPD) has released a school zone speed camera FAQ flyer to help residents better understand how citations, payments, and hearings are handled.

The NPD said the flyer was prepared in response to recurring questions from drivers about citation procedures and the role of the third-party vendor that manages camera enforcement and payment processing.

According to the Niceville Police Department, the vendor is a national company based in Maryland, and its correspondence and payment center operates out of Atlanta, Georgia. This is why citation envelopes and payment instructions list an Atlanta address.

The city noted that it does not collect payments for camera enforcement citations. All payments must be submitted following the instructions on the notice. Residents who have lost or misplaced a citation may contact the vendor’s customer service number listed on the notice or visit the website provided there for assistance.

Under Florida law governing school zone speed cameras, the registered owner of the vehicle is responsible for the violation. Although the Niceville Police Department cannot change the name on a citation, the department said an affidavit is available through the vendor that may allow responsibility to be transferred when appropriate.

Residents who wish to dispute a citation may request a hearing before a magistrate judge. The department said these hearings are conducted online and do not require in-person attendance. Instructions are printed on the back of each notice.

The Niceville Police Department has posted the FAQ on its Facebook page and made a printable version of the FAQ available for download here.

Anyone needing direct assistance may contact the program technician, Officer Carnathan, at (850) 729-4030 during normal business hours, Monday through Thursday.
