According to Westonwood Ranch, the organization has been awarded $400,000 in State of Florida appropriations through the Agency for Persons with Disabilities to support the construction of its new training building.

The expansion marks what the organization described as a significant step forward in providing meaningful learning and employment opportunities for individuals with developmental differences.

The upcoming facility will serve as a hub for vocational instruction, independent living skills, and hands-on workforce readiness programs. Westonwood Ranch said the project also fits into a larger initiative to increase affordable supportive housing for young adults with developmental disabilities in Northwest Florida, addressing what it called a critical need for long-term stability.

Westonwood Ranch expressed gratitude to Representative Shane Abbott and Senator Jay Trumbull for championing the funding. Both lawmakers were recognized for their leadership and advocacy throughout the appropriations process.

“I am proud to support Westonwood Ranch and their mission to empower individuals with developmental differences through education, training, and workforce development,” said Rep. Shane Abbott.

“Investments like this not only strengthen our communities but also create pathways for independence and meaningful employment. I look forward to seeing the lasting impact this new facility will bring to District 5 and beyond.”

“This funding is a game-changer for our organization and, most importantly, for the individuals and families we serve,” said Lindy Wood, founder and CEO of Westonwood Ranch.

“We are especially thankful for Representative Abbott and Senator Trumbull’s advocacy and belief in our mission. With this new building, we will be able to expand our training programs, foster greater independence, and create a pipeline of opportunities that help bridge the gap between education and employment.”

Westonwood Ranch said the $400,000 appropriation reflects the State of Florida’s commitment to inclusive workforce development and innovative, supportive housing programs. The organization said the expansion will help create a continuum of care that builds skills, confidence, and stability for young adults with developmental disabilities.
