FDOT announces lane closures, detours in Okaloosa, Walton next week

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced upcoming lane closures and detours in Okaloosa and Walton counties as crews continue roadwork, bridge construction, and resurfacing projects next week.

OKALOOSA COUNTY

— Brooks Bridge Replacement Project
Drivers may encounter alternating lane closures on U.S. 98 from Ferry Road to Pier Road and on Santa Rosa Boulevard from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park from Sunday, Oct. 26, through Thursday, Oct. 30, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

The roadway west of the Destin–Fort Walton Beach Convention Center remains closed from U.S. 98 to just north of the roundabout, including a partial roundabout closure. The closure is expected to last through mid-2026 as crews build the westbound bridge structure and approach. Access to the convention center will remain open via Pier Road.

— State Road 85 Improvements from State Road 123 to Hospital Drive
Drivers may see intermittent lane closures next week between Shoal River Bridge and Interstate 10. Northbound lanes will close from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., while southbound lanes will close from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 26, through Thursday, Oct. 30.

— Interstate 10 Eastbound Rest Area and Truck Parking Improvements
The truck parking area at mile marker 59 will remain temporarily closed through winter 2026. Passenger vehicle parking and rest area facilities will remain open.

— U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Santa Rosa County Line to West of Josie Road
Contractors will begin nighttime earthwork operations on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Lane closures are expected on Wednesday, Oct. 29, and Thursday, Oct. 30, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for shoulder work.

WALTON COUNTY

— U.S. 331 Resurfacing from South of Interstate 10 to U.S. 90
The northbound outside right-turn lane at U.S. 90 is temporarily closed. One northbound left-turn lane and one shared left- and right-turn lane remain open. On U.S. 90, the westbound outside lane is closed between 11th Street and U.S. 331, though one travel lane and a left-turn lane remain available.

— U.S. 98 Intersection Improvements at U.S. 331
Motorists may experience intermittent lane closures from Sunday, Oct. 26, through Thursday, Oct. 30, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., for paving operations.

All work is weather-dependent and may be delayed or rescheduled in case of inclement weather. The Florida Department of Transportation reminds drivers to use caution, especially at night, and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and exiting the roadway.
