OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced a hybrid public hearing to discuss permanently closing the median on U.S. 98 at Regions Way in Destin.
The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, beginning with an open house from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by a formal presentation and public comment period starting at 6 p.m.
Citizens can attend virtually via nwflroads.com/calendar or in person at Destin City Hall Annex, 4100 Indian Bayou Trail. Pre-registration is required for virtual attendance and encouraged for in-person participants.
According to the FDOT, the hearing will focus on plans to permanently close the median at Regions Way as part of the ongoing U.S. 98 resurfacing project from Paraiso Boulevard to Regions Way. The change is intended to improve safety and traffic flow along a corridor that serves about 53,500 drivers daily.
Maps, drawings, and other project materials are available online at nwflroads.com/calendar and in person at the Destin Chamber of Commerce, 4484 Legendary Drive, Suite A, through Friday, October 31. Comments submitted or postmarked on or before that date will become part of the official record.
FDOT representatives will be present to discuss the project, answer questions, and receive comments. Individuals needing ADA accommodations or translation services may contact FDOT Project Manager Troy Byers at (850) 836-5749 or Troy.Byers@dot.state.fl.us.
The FDOT said the hearing is being held without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, or family status.
